  9. 1.0 Requirements

  11. PC CD-ROM SPECS       MPC Level 2 Required
  12. Input Devices:        Keyboard and Joystick or Mouse
  13. Sound Devices:        Sound Blaster, Ad Lib, General Midi or Compatible
  14. Graphics Supported:   VGA Required
  15.               Local Bus SVGA Recommended
  16.               Not recommended for Matrox video cards.
  17. CD-ROM Drive:         Double Speed
  18. RAM:                  4MB RAM Required
  19. Processor:            486 or better Required

  24. 2.0 Setup
  25. You only need to do this the first time you play this Sampler.
  26.  
  27. 2.1 To Setup
  28. (If you've already done this skip to section 2.2)
  29. For the purpose of these instructions, we assume that your CD-ROM drive is
  30. drive D. Depending on your configuration, your CD drive may be E, F, etc.
  31. Please substitute as needed.

  33. *  Place the Rocket Science Games Game Sampler disc into your CD-ROM
  34.    drive.
  35. *  If you are running Windows, exit Windows by choosing "Exit to DOS" from the
  36.    File menu in the Program Manager's menu bar. If you are running Windows95
  37.    then, from the task bar's Start menu select "Shut Down..." then select
  38.    "Restart the computer in MS-DOS mode?" and click "Yes"
  39. *  At the C:\> prompt type: D: [Enter] 
  40. *  At the D:\> prompt type: CADILLAC [Enter]
  41.  
  42. After a few moments the Sound Configuration setup menu will appear. 
  43.  
  44. 2.1.1 Sound Configuration setup menu 
  45. This menu allows you to choose the sources for digital audio (sound effects
  46. and voices) and MIDI music.  
  47.  
  48. "Auto configure MIDI and audio drivers" will be highlighted -- 
  49.  
  50. *  To auto configure press [Enter]. Follow the set up program.
  51. *  To choose other options, use your arrow keys to highlight your selection
  52.    and press [Enter].

  54. When the Sound Configuration setup is complete you will return to the
  55. Sound Configuration setup menu
  56.  
  57. From this menu, you may test music or digital audio, Exit to DOS or
  58. Play Cadillacs & Dinosaurs.

  60. 2.2 Starting the Demo from the DOS prompt
  61. *  Place the Rocket Science Games Game Sampler disc into your CD-ROM
  62.    drive.
  63. *  At the C:\> prompt type: D: [Enter] 
  64. *  At the D:\> prompt type: CADILLAC [Enter]

  68. 3.0 General Keyboard Controls for Rocket Science Games Game Sampler

  73.   R - Reverse up and down motion of joystick/mouse

  75.  F2 - Darkens screen (gamma down)

  77.  F4 - Returns to default brightness setting

  86. 4.0 Cadillacs and Dinosaurs
  87. (This sampler contains Chapter One only)

  89. 4.1 Story
  90. Hundreds of years into the future, you find yourself in a post-apocalyptic
  91. jungle. Your job is to help Jack Tenrec and Hannah Dundee get through.
  92.  
  93. Getting there isn't necessarily easy, there are many paths through the
  94. Jungle, some quick but difficult, some short yet treacherous. Every path is
  95. filled with obstacles. Use your gun to clear the path but be careful not to
  96. shoot any living creatures.
  97.  
  98. 4.2 The Control Screen
  99. Cadillacs & Dinosaurs can be played using the keyboard and/or a mouse or
  100. joystick. Choose "More..." from the Option Screen to jump to the Control
  101. Screen. The Control Screen helps you to select your choice of input device
  102. for steering and aiming while giving you an overview of your keyboard, mouse
  103. and joystick controls.   
  104.  
  105. The control screen will recognize whether you have a mouse or joystick
  106. installed properly for use with Cadillacs and Dinosaurs.
  107.  
  108. In order to use a mouse your computer must be configured with a mouse driver
  109. installed for DOS, not just Windows.  
  110.  
  111. 4.2.1 Control Set Up
  112.  
  113. Choose your preference for steering control by using the right and left arrow 
  114. keys on your keyboard to select your choice.
  115.  
  116. *  Press the down arrow key to choose your preference for aiming control.
  117. *  If you choose keyboard to steer, you can select keyboard, mouse or joystick
  118.    for aiming. If you choose mouse or joystick to steer, you must aim with
  119.    that same device.
  120. *  Once you have selected steering and aiming preferences, use the down arrow
  121.    key on your keyboard to highlight "Continue" and press [Enter].  
  122.  
  123. 4.2.2  General Keyboard Controls (always active)
  124. Ctrl - Shoots gun to blow obstacles out of your path. Hold down to
  125.        supercharge your gun.
  126.  Alt - Engine boost helps to jump cracks in the roadway.

  128. 4.3 On Screen Displays
  129.  
  130. *  Clock - You have one hour to prevent the Second Cataclysm! The clock
  131.    normally runs in real time but, your skill can affect it. Killing or
  132.    wounding animals speeds up the clock; preserving their lives slows it
  133.    down.

  135. *  Damage - Jack's beefed-up '53 Cadillac will sustain damage from ammo hits,
  136.    bumps and slither nudges. You loose a life if the damage meter hits the
  137.    max!

  139. *  Lives - You get three chances to save the world from Scharnhorst and her
  140.    poachers.
  141.  
  142. *  Score - You earn points for good shooting and driving skills.

  144. 4.4 How to Play 
  145.  
  146. Don't just shoot. Hold down the trigger for a supercharged gun which clears
  147. away up to three obstacles in one shot.
  148.  
  149. Don't shoot the crystals, drive over them for a quick repair job (and maybe
  150. more!).
  151.  
  152. Use the turbo boost to regain traction in sticky situations.
  153.  
  154. 4.5 Hints
  155.  
  156. If you think that you're driving in circles, you probably are; listen to 
  157. Hannah and try a different route.
  158.  
  159. It's easy to get lost in the Jungle but there is always a way out.  If a 
  160. path appears blocked, you may have missed a turn before the barrier.
  161.  
  162. When you see a dinosaur off the road, remember they can see you too!  
  163. Look out - you may be seeing them again soon.
  164.  
  165. Sometimes you need to steer precisely to get past an obstacle. Occasionally
  166. you need to hit obstacles in the road to jump over cracks.  Try different
  167. driving techniques if you are having trouble.
